We are saddened to have learned of the passing of Vinayak Pradhan, a valued and an important member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR over many years, who also served as Vice Chair of the Commission (2008-2017).

In his 45 years of illustrious practice, Vinayak Pradhan held several important roles and responsibilities both domestically and internationally. In addition to his active participation at the ICC, some of the other places where he also served include, Commissioner with the United Nations Compensation Commission dealing with construction and civil engineering claims from corporate entities (1998 -2003), Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague (2003-2015); Global President, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (2013).

We pay tribute to his significant contributions to international arbitration, not only as a highly respected arbitrator and a skilled lawyer, but also as someone who played a major role in shaping the development of the discipline. His wise counsel during the drafting of the 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration and his successful defense of the ICC in a lengthy litigation in Malaysia were of particular value to the ICC.

The entire ICC family joins us in thanking him for his devoted service and outstanding contributions to the work of the ICC and to the field of international arbitration as a whole. He will be greatly missed.
